EV and Hybrid Sounds

Here`s where we can give the vehicles a voice which is organic and natural, without increasing the noise of the city.

Giving electric vehicles a recognisable sonic personality, rethinking the relationship between technology and nature.

1. EVAS - low speed exterior sounds to alert and protect pedestrians.

Early sound studies exploring different approaches to EV acoustic identity.

a. A gravel-like sound, increasing in intensity with speed then slowing again.

b. Reversing - a reverse wave.

c. A gentle sound derived from the sea.

2.  Internal driving sound, sound for electric movement.  Electric cars are changing the way we move and changing the sound of movement.

A sonic interpretation of acceleration and braking, without imitating a conventional engine.

For instance, early sound sketches based on natural sounds:

a. An evolving sound derived from wind and air movement, responding to acceleration.

b. A fluid, low frequency soundscape exploring movement, energy and deceleration derived from the seashore.

3. UX.  Shortform sounds for vehicle interaction, information and alerts.

For instance, some idea sketches:

Playfully based on bird calls!

Field recordings to sonic identity.

Headzic uses environmental recordings, electroacoustic techniques and experimental sound design to explore new acoustic identities.  The aim is not to reproduce the sound of an engine, but to create new sounds that belong to electric vehicles.
